Located in the heart of the seaside town of Helensburgh, we have been assessed as Very Good across all inspected areas by the Care Inspectorate in June 2023 and have recently attained Joint licencing Housing Support and Care at Home.
Barclay Smith House is a traditional two-story building close to the centre of Helensburgh. Originally four houses it retains the personality and feel of its era.
The house is made up of nine private apartments that are well maintained with access to a secluded back garden which our residents can make use of in the good weather.
There is ample free roadside parking just outside the main door with bus stops on both sides of the street.
The town centre and its amenities are very accessible, only a short walk away. There are two train stations with direct routes to Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Highlands.
Abbeyfield Helensburgh trading as Barclay-Smith Housing Support & Care at Home was established in 1962 and has always stuck to the original ethos of promoting independence in a person centred way.
The decision to include Care at Home was taken to enable our residents to be supported in their apartments for as long as possible. We are also able to assist those in the community using the same values and ethos.
If you are living alone, having to fetch your own shopping and cook for yourself, Barclay-Smith House could be what you are looking for. We can provide you with an independent lifestyle whilst being free from everyday worries such as decorating or maintaining your home, paying utilities and setting up services.
Anyone over the age of 65 is welcome to apply for residence. Your apartment will be yours to furnish as you like.
A light breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the rental and meals are served in our pleasant dining room.
Our excellent cooking team prepare dishes to the highest standard and the menu is varied, allowing for favourite meals to be included at the residents request.
If you are happy staying in your home but need a little additional help we can provide support for you with packages tailored to your needs.

Personal Assistant
The team will be happy to help you with general household activities, assist with day to admin and light cleaning.
All our PA's are trained to Care Certificate standard are PVG checked and SSSC registered.
This service starts from £20 per hour
Support Workers
Our support workers are trained to, or under going SVQ 2 level training.
They have also undertaken Care Certificate or external training covering Medication prompts, personal care and step down needs following hospital stays.
All Support Workers are PVG checked and SSSC registered.
This service starts at £23 per hour.
Which ever service you require you can be assured of excellent service provided by allocated individuals trained to the highest standard.
Private, social or direct payment funding welcome.
Barclay-Smith House also provides pre-bookable respite provision. This is available with or without the care component.
This service starts at £800 per week.
The weekly rent for apartments within Barclay-Smith House start at £650 per week, this rental includes:

Catering
Food is very important here at Barclay Smith House and we provide excellent freshly prepared meals daily from our new modern kitchen. There are three tasty home-cooked meals served every day in the communal dining room.
A light breakfast is available between 9:15and 9:30 each day.
Lunch at 12.30 and Tea at 5.30.
Themed lunches and dinners are served throughout the year. These may includes Burns Supper, St Andrews Day, Chinese New Year banquet, St Patrick's Day lunch and many more special occasions throughout the year.
All residents can celebrate their birthdays with their choice of menu and if requested a birthday cake prepared on site. All our staff are highly trained in the safe preparation and safe handling of food.

We encourage residents to live independent, full and active lives, providing a wide range of opportunities for residents to mix and socialise. At the moment we offer:
Handicrafts with Crocheting & Card Making, Painting & drawing sessions, Card & Board Games, Occasional Quizzes, Armchair Exercises, Monthly Outings, Films, Musical Evenings & Piano solo's from our resident pianist.
We have loyal and consistent Staff & Management in place and excellent Care Inspectorate ratings.
We also have dedicated committee members, volunteers, and friends of Barclay-Smith House who take residents out on monthly outings and generally help with up keep and decorating of the property.
We are a charity regulated by OSCR and FCA. We are registered with the local authority as a HMO and licenced by the Care Inspectorate.
